Dog’s eye is red and she won’t open it- help, please?
saveyourself1310 asked:
The other day, we took her to the vet because she had a bacteria infection in her ear. They gave us two different types of drops to put in her ear (one you do three times a week, the other you do twice a day) and some pills that we are supposed to give her twice a day (If you need more info, I can get the names of them.)

Her right eye she is having trouble opening. It is all red, and there are some eye boogers around it, and some gunk in it that I can see when she DOES open it a little bit. Her left eye is open, but it also has some weird gunk in it.
Could these be side affects from the pills we have been giving her?
Should I take her to the vet tomorrow, or should I leave it alone for a few days?
Helpppp, please?
(She is a 12 year old chihuahua mix, so she IS old.)

Vet ASAP.
Take your dog to the vet IMMEDIATELY! It’s a infection and has to be treated!
one word… VET
I would take her to the vets. It sounds like there might be a high chance that the problem is from the pills she is on. She could possibly be having a reaction to them. It could also be that she got something in her eye that has irritated it. It could also just be because she is getting old and possibly loosing her vision, but because it has happened so close after taking the pills i would highly suggest you take her back the the vets.
Hope this Helps!
take her back to the vet asap!
My eleven year old JRT mix had the same problem with his eye.
The vet gave him drops (three times a day) and it cleared right up! I totally forget what was wrong… ulcerated eye? Something.
Take her to the vet ASAP. It’s treatable, but right now your dog’s in a lot of pain.
Good luck!
Take it to the vet asap dont wait till tmrw take it immideatly
She could have conjuntivitis (an eye infection). I work for an optometrist, and I know that dogs and people are two totally seperate things, but sometimes illnesses aren’t totally opposite. Bacteria is easily spread. Sometimes it spreads on it’s own and sometimes we help it along without meaning to. If for some reason the smallest bit of bacteria got into her eye from her ears the infection could have spread. You do need to take her to the vet because eye infections can be very serious and may sometimes even cause blindess if not treated. If you can’t get her to a vet today, then take a warm wet paper towel (not washcloth) and clean her eye. Use gloves because you don’t want an infection either. The purpose of using a paper towel is so that you don’t keep contaminating her eye. Just get a clean one each time. Please do call your vet asap as she will need an antibiotic eye drop. Hope this helps and good luck. Likely not only is her eye irritated, most eye infections are very itchy, so if you can keep her from scratching that would be the best.
If this was my dog I would go to a local pet store to buy, eye swabs and eye wash for dogs. My dog is really hairy so her hair gets in her eyes causing them to have booger like gunk in her eyes and to become very red and agitated. When I do these two things he eye usually gets better quickly.
If none of that works then I would for sure take the dog to the vet after 2-3 days. It may be a side effect from the medicine or just a mild infection from something being caught in the eye.
I would rather try to fix the problem at home without paying $100′s at the vet right away.
i drought that it has anything to do with the pills. she needs to see the vet. ASAP. she could have something in her eye or possibly injured the eye and you were not aware of it. letting it go could cause her to loose the eye not to mention it must be very painful.
Considering her age, I think she needs to see the vet TODAY!! This could turn into something disabling or even life-threatening, especially at her age. Go NOW!!
Take her to the vet now!!!
It does sound like she either an allergic reaction or side affect to the meds, or maybe she got some of the drops in her eye from shaking her head. You should go ahead and take her to the vet.
