What are each generations obligations to those before and those after them? Do the old consume too much health care? What is too much? How should health care resources be distributed across the population? Should health care be explicitly rationed on the basis of age?Interesting question. How many young people, say 30 and younger have paid into a health insurance plan since they were first employed? How many of these have had extreme health issues that otherwise would have wiped them out? Truth is, and the insurance companies know, is that the youth have *always* subsidized the elderly because statistically, one is more likely to need to *use* health insurance when one is older, than when one is younger. So, younger folks premiums go to the cost and care of those who are older. In a way, not unlike a Ponzi scheme. Is this bad? In strict terms of the youth subsidizing their older compatriots, no. But when it gets dicey is that the youth get old eventually, and when they get their insurance revolked because of a pre-existing condition, or, they have become too expensive to cover and subsequently get cancelled by their health insurance company, that's when it becomes criminal. So, short answer, no. There should be a Public Option that ensures the health care of everyone.

San Jose, California (PRWEB) August 25, 2011

Bone and joint health supplements are increasingly finding their place in functional foods industry, with calcium fortification, glucosamine, MSM, vitamins and soy supplements gaining immense popularity. Globally more than 200 million people are affected by osteoporosis, and countries across the world are witnessing an alarming rise in bone and joint related diseases. There is a marked consumer shift towards a proactive, rather than a reactive approach to health and living, with increased focus on disease prevention instead of mere treatment. Increased inclination towards value-added products and preference for supplements/medications used in the treatment of age and gender-related disorders support market development and growth. Population groups such as Asian and Caucasian women that are more prone to age related bone and joint diseases are escalating interest levels in ingredients and products that promote and support bone and joint health. Future growth prospects for Food Supplements would depend on media promotion and attention since it plays a key role in generating consumer interest. Scientific research and clinical trials backing claims of safety and efficacy of supplements and remedies remain a critical factor in determining long-term success of the category.

Development of supplements is likely to increase in future, with marketers capitalizing on the aging population world over. Fish oils, herbal supplements and other natural offerings such as probiotic acidohiplus and detoxes are emerging as alternatives to conventional synthetic supplements. People of different age groups are turning to natural health supplements as they offer greater health benefits in comparison to artificial supplements. Food supplements, including omega-3s, herbal extracts, multivitamins, probiotics, chondroitin and glucosamine logged healthy growth rates in 2008 and 2009 despite the economic downturn and squeeze in consumer spending.

The market for general dietary supplements is losing sheen, while the demand for specialty supplements is growing at a heady pace, since specialty products are scientifically proven, efficient and primarily aimed at self-help oriented customers. Vegetable-sourced glucosamine is the latest trend prevalent in the bone and joint health market. Manufacturers are increasingly using vegetarian ingredients for catering to the needs of the growing green and vegetarian population. Since glucosamine is derived from shellfish and other animal sources, the trend is gaining popularity not just with vegetarians, but also with people allergic to shellfish and those following a kosher diet. Combination supplements are also growing in importance, as they are perceived to offer higher clinical efficacy compared to a single/stand-alone ingredient. Glucosamine, earlier used independently to repair and rebuild human cartilage, is now increasingly paired with other ingredients, most notably Chondroitin, that promotes more elastic cartilage.

The US market, driven by aging baby boomers represents the single largest market, as stated by the new research report on Bone and Joint Health Supplements. Growing incidence of obesity, sports injuries and consumer awareness is driving the demand for joint health supplements/ingredients, including glucosamine in the US market. Japan trails closely as the other important market, propelled by market deregulation, health care expenditure, stress on healthy diets and rapidly aging population. Asia-Pacific, largely spurred by China, the largest producer and supplier of glucosamine globally, is forecast to surge ahead at the overall fastest CAGR of 6.8% through 2017. Calcium Supplements account for a dominant share of the bone and joint supplements market. The category for other supplements such as vitamin D, vitamin K2, MSM, soy isoflavones, collagen and others is poised to expand at a robust pace of 6.0% over the analysis period.

Key market participants profiled in the report include, Archer Daniel Midland Company, Bergstrom Nutrition, Inc, Cargill, Inc., DSM Nutritional Products Ltd, Danisco A/S, ESM Technologies LLC, Ethical Naturals, Inc, Kappa Bioscience AS, Koyo Chemical Company Ltd., Navamedic ASA, NBTY, Inc, Schiff Nutrition International, Inc, Simply Supplements, Zhejiang Freeman Shinfuda Co. Ltd., among several others.

The research report titled Bone and Joint Health Supplements: A Global Strategic Business Report announced by Global Industry Analysts, Inc., provides a comprehensive review of industry, segment and product overview, trends & issues, herbal supplements, recent industry activity and profiles of market players worldwide. Market analytics and overview is provided in value (US$) terms for major geographic markets such as US, Japan, Europe, Asia-Pacific and Rest of World. Major product segments analyzed include, Glucosamine-Chondroitin Supplements, Calcium Supplements and Other Supplements. The study also provides historic data for an insight into market evolution over the period 2003 through 2008.

If you are a health freak, then you definitely must have heard of the Paleo diet. There is absolutely no dearth of admirers of this high protein low carb diet. Many people have taken to this diet for different reasons. But the end result is always same, and each of them agrees that this diet has indeed helped them to stay fit and lose weight.

Now any body with a proper mind would definitely wonder about convincing reasons to use this Paleo diet to lose weight, when there are hundreds and thousands of other weight loss diets in the market.

Well, there are zillions of weight loss plans and diets. But how many of them are actually effective and how many of these effective weight loss plans can boast of being promoting healthy weight loss?

One of the greatest dangers of dieting or attempting to lose weight using fad diet plans is the risk of developing health disorders. You can easily end up in the hospital, if you adopt the wrong diet plan, especially if it fits in to the ‘lose weight overnight’ category of diet plans. Losing weight rapidly may be the most popular method, but is not always the healthiest option.

Paleo diet is a class apart from such fad diets and dangerous weight loss diet plans for many different reasons as listed below:

• Paleo diet does not encourage extreme fasting or food restriction

• It does not encourage adopting extreme procedures like cleansing or intense detox

• It does not ask you to count calories or limit food intake

• It does not ask you to adopt unhealthy foods

• It has numerous health benefits like preventing onset of chronic disorders like heart troubles, hypertension, arthritis, Multiple sclerosis, Celiac disease, Crohn’s disease, IBS etc

• The Paleo diet encourages use of lots of fruits and vegetables too, which provides a good amount of fiber to the diet. Fiber intake has been linked to good health of the colon and also provides safety from dangerous diseases like cancer of rectum or colon, fissures, constipation, hemorrhoids etc.

• It helps in losing weight in healthy manner without any risk or bad effects.

Many critics who oppose the Paleo diet say that it restricts dairy products so it can bring about a calcium deficit in the body and hence lead to calcium deficiency related bone disorders. This is not at all true, because calcium can be sourced from other foods like spinach etc and need not be only depended upon dairy products.

Health Benefits of Adopting Paleo Diet and Living is a post from: Health and Remedies

Health insurance is the primary means people use to pay for medical care in the United States. In exchange for paying a provider a set of fees, an individual receives coverage for doctor’s visits, hospitals stays and prescription drugs. In the end, they save thousands of dollars, since they are not responsible for the majority of their medical expenses. Of course, the exact amount a person pays will depend on the type of healthcare plan they have. In the United States, the most popular ones will fall into one of three categories: group insurance, managed care and national insurance.

Most people will end up using group health insurance. With this type of healthcare, a person signs up for a plan through their employer. Acceptance is almost always guaranteed, thanks to HIPAA laws. Even if an employee has a preexisting condition, if they have been working at a company past their probationary period, they are eligible for the insurance. This is assuming their employer even has such a policy. If an employer does not have a waiting period, an individual can sign up for the insurance immediately. In addition, since most of the fees are taken out with each paycheck, employees do not have to worry about budgeting for their healthcare expenses. Under the best plans, they only have to worry about a small co-pay.

However, if a group plan is provided through a managed care network, things work a little differently. This is a type of health insurance where providers work with a specific network of doctors, clinics and hospitals. In an HMO managed care plan, a person must stick with one particular provider in their network. If a person goes to a doctor outside of that network, they will not receive coverage. This works in contrast to the PPO, another type of managed care plan. While PPOs still have a specific list of providers, a person is not restricted to them. Should they stray from the list, they will receive partial coverage for their care. Either way, both HMOs and PPOs tend to have higher deductibles and out-of-pocket expenses than group plans. But on the plus side, for self-employed individuals, these networks do offer individual coverage.

Finally, there is national health insurance, a body of plans provided through the United States government. Medicare and Medicaid are the most well-known. Medicare provides coverage to anyone over 65, while Medicaid grants insurance to disadvantaged groups. Lesser-known plans include Tricare, COBRA and high-risk insurances.

Tricare is designed for military personnel while COBRA temporarily covers people who have lost their jobs. Then there are high-risk insurances, which are designed to help people with pre-existing conditions. They offer a more affordable alternative, at least in comparison to what one might find among managed care plans.

If you need assistance in locating particular coverages at a pre-determined price, we can help you find a reduce health insurance premium today.

The rapid expansion of mobile phone use and construction of base stations have raised fears that the technology of cell phones could have adverse effects on health, including causing cancer, headaches and memory loss.

WHO estimates that in 2002 there will be 700 million mobile phone users. The Scandinavian countries are most advanced, with a density of 36 to 42%. Therefore, an impact on human health, even if limited, would be multiplied on a global scale.

The current mobile phones operate at frequencies between 800 and 1800 MHz. The RF (radio frequency) frequency between 1 MHz and 10 GHz penetrate exposed tissues and cause heating due to energy absorption. Even when very low intensity, an RF field generates a small amount heat, but it would be evacuated by the normal processes of thermoregulation of the body. Also in the current state of scientific knowledge, it is unlikely that exposure to RF fields of low intensity, induces or promotes appearance of cancers, including those emitted by mobile phones and their base stations. (Source: WHO)

Currently the health effects of frequencies emitted by mobile phones are unclear and often contradictory and their impact on human health are not sufficiently well understood to justify limiting the exposure to RF fields low intensity. However the European Union recommends that manufacturers of devices that produce such effects to be “cautious”.

Of course, mobile phones are a recent technology, and researchers have not yet sufficient data to demonstrate the potential long-term effects of electromagnetic fields on health. Epidemiological studies and experiments on animals are multiplying, contradictory . and add to uncertainty. Several independent studies (ie publicly funded and not by mobile telephone operators) highlight the biological changes in living organisms under the effect of electromagnetic waves emitted by mobile phones. The European Reflex pointed in vitro breakage of DNA strands in living cells and an increase of chromosomal aberrations under the influence of electromagnetic fields of frequency bands of mobile phones (1 800 MHz).

“In addition to a significant penetration of electromagnetic fields of mobile in the body, other works show an increase in the permeability of the blood-brain barrier (which separates the blood from the brain), allowing passage of toxic substances circulating in blood, with consequent impairment of nerve cells the use of a mobile for more than ten years would increase by 30% the risk of neuroma (benign tumor of the brain) when the phone is sometimes worn to listen sometimes to another, and 240% when it is held on one side.

Released in August 2007, the work of fourteen experts who analyzed more than 1 500 publications on the effects of electromagnetic fields on all forms of life has since been referenced by the European Environment Agency and the European Parliament relied on to make its findings last September on a resolution concerning the environmental electromagnetic fields.

Im currently in college obtaining a degree in communication disorders, and then will obtain my masters to become a speech language pathologist. I am worried we will convert over to socialized medicine (for lack of a better term) by then and my wages will be next to nothing. Does anyone have any ideas how health care reform will effect wages in the health care industry?Count on lower wages if there is no change in the current system. I work as an interpreter with speech therapists; their salaries have not risen in three years to compensate for increased premiums of the portion of their health insurance that their employer pays and for the increased portion that they must pay of their premiums. As people spend more on health care, there is less money to spend on consumption. Spending in the US economy is 70% consumption. For there to be income to purchase goods and services not related to health care, the cost of health care must come down. The cost per capita of health care in the US is about twice what it is in countries that cover all their citizens and that report better outcomes that does our profit-driven system. In short, controlling or, better, lowering the cost of health care in the US to levels closer to those of countries with better overall outcomes than our system produces will likely result in an increase in your take-home wage, all else being equal.I say “all else being equal,” because demand is the major driver of wages: the greater the need for speech pathologists, the likelier it is that you will earn more. From my experience, the fact that we hire speech pathologists where I work and that–in this market–we are looking for more competent speech therapists, as we call them, bodes well for your choice of career.
