What are anabolic steroids?
Anabolic steroids are a synthetic form of the natural hormone testosterone. Most anabolic steroids are manufactured by first starting with the cholesterol molecule and by adding or removing a few hydrogen and oxygen atoms.
What are some of the anabolic steroids effects?
As derivatives of testosterone anabolic steroids produce two types of activities in the human body – anabolic and androgenic. Anabolic are those where smaller compounds are converted into larger molecules. Two of the best examples are protein synthesis and red blood cell production. Androgenic effects include the development and appearance of the male secondary sex characteristics including hair growth, deepening of the voice, increased activity of the sweat glands, increased aggression, and modification of sexual behavior. Anabolic steroids were developed to maximize anabolic effects while minimizing androgenic effects. created by www.steroid.org
